Reviews about Sola Salon Studios

Dis-respectful, poor service, outrageous display of belittling the consumer, pressured to spend more, lack of professionalism, unjust treatment of a woman, ... and all in just one visit!

My wife went to Sola Salon Studios in Glen Ellyn just a few months ago and I'm still pissed off about what happened to her there. When I arrived to pick her up, my wife was sagging her shoulders and hiding her face. As I approached I could see the tears in her eyes, and as she spoke I could her the shame and quiet anger in her voice. After a few minutes of us talking, I threw upon the door and thrust my leg out, having coming up with a plan in about 2 seconds of how I would enter the building, flip a few tables, smash a few bottles of shampoo, yell obscene words of profanity really loudly, and do my absolute best not to throat punch anyone, when my wife quickly reached over and grabbed my arm.

"No. That's not the way to handle this, it's no big deal. Can we just leave please?" So, I sucked it up and we left.

My wife, God bless her, was right. Throat punching the lady who cut my wife's hair and made her cry wouldn't have solved anything. I hope however, that this scathing review solves a thing or two. Here's what happened:

My wife bought a Groupon for this salon. We all know about Groupon's, they're great. And 9 out of 10 times, you throw in a tip when you use a Groupon because you got such a great deal and want to support that business or employee. However, my wife goes into this salon for a new hairstyle (because she wanted to do something nice for me and get a fancy new haircut from a professional) and is immediately ridiculed for bringing in a Groupon. The employee belittles my wife and shames her as a customer whilst she sits there getting her haircut. This employee goes on to talk about how hard it is for businesses these days and how Groupons have been affecting their business. She says something to the effect of, "Most people don't know that Groupons don't actually bring in a lot of money." My wife apologizes and agrees that times in the economy are hard and asks questions about the current economy in Glen Ellyn as a suburb of Chicago. However, the politeness from my wife does not dissuade her and my wife continues to feel ashamed and looked down upon.

This review is not the place to argue the business model of Groupons, however, what I will say is that my wife has 7 years of military service as a Geospatial engineer with a deployment under her belt, is a full-time college student set to get her Bachelor's degree next year, and a mother of one beautiful boy with a little girl due in April. She is not stupid, nor does she deserve to be verbally disrespected about the struggles of small businesses. She is fully aware of modern economics and the need to make money.

With the haircut finished and my wife thoroughly disappointed (she told me she didn't really have the chance to look at her hair because she wanted to leave as quickly as possible), she goes to pay for her haircut and asks if she can leave a tip. My wife, not having any cash on her, is again ridiculed, this time for paying with her credit card, even though my wife leaves the more than fair amount of $20. This employee has the audacity to tell my wife that, "you should know better," in reference to paying with a credit card rather than cash, which as everyone knows costs the business a small percentage. I could rant some more about this bulls***, but I think I've made my point.

I myself have 9 years in the service, currently a full-time student as well. I get my haircuts from a local barber and enjoy supporting his business, even though it costs a little more than the competitor. This place however, is a disgrace and has personally insulted me with the way they have treated my wife, the mother of my children. It is absolutely unacceptable and I hope my review dissuades anyone from spending their money here. My wife has since visited a couple of salons in Wheaton and has had much better service.
